“So, actually last question, why hire a private attorney versus a public defender?”
Spencer Freeman – Criminal Defense Attorney – Pierce County, WA
“A couple of reasons. One is the time I’m able to devote to a case. Another is the amount of personal attention I’m going to be able to give an individual client. I think that there tends to be a better ability for me to have that relationship with a client. So that the client is confident that whatever is going on is the best-case scenario. As opposed to a public defender who can’t spend that time with you and build that rapport and build that trust. You want to come through this, if there’s a guilty finding or there’s a prison sentence, you want to come through this knowing that this was the best that could have happened in light of the circumstances. Not ‘my attorney didn’t do their job’. And that sense of confidence is why you hire a private attorney.”
