What happens if he misses a court date? You know, what…literally, is step one, step two, step three, and because they’re going to, they’re going to be concerned. He misses a court date, they owe the money?
Christian Esparza – Acme Bail Bonds – California
Right, so a person misses court, after we bail him out, the court will send us a letter saying so-and-so missed their court date. We’ll usually call the friend or family member up and let them know we received a letter from the court and asking them if they’ve spoke with the person and if the person’s able to go back to the court to add themselves back on calendar. In which case we would give the court a reassumption letter.
This lets the court know that it’s okay with the bond company that they pick up from where they left off. That’s a good normal scenario of a person missing court.
Other times a person would miss court we call the friend or family member and they haven’t seen them since they were bailed out and they don’t know how to contact them. In which case, the court gives us a certain amount of time to have them return back to court or for them to be arrested.
So, we would try to, talking with the friend or family member, locate the person, and either bring them back to custody or arrange that they surrender themselves back to the court and continue where they left off, just depending on what the person who signed for them wants to do.
